Loggerhead Sea Turtle (poseable)

A model loggerhead turtle with moveable flippers. You could call it an "action figure", but there's a distinct absence of mutation and/or martial arts training for this little guy! All four flippers are attached by ball joints that are captured during the printing process. The front and back halves of the model snap together with the included H-clip. Some cool info about loggerheads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isjxWHoMz1E Just want to print it? Then "Loggerhead_plated.STL" is the file for you! Switch off automatic supports in your slicer software. There are only two supports needed and they're included in the STL. Don't forget to snap them off with pliers after printing. Plate it yourse... Tube roller

An adaptation of alany's tube key the original source that includes a squasher frame and end cap to hold the key in place. The slot in the squasher is offset to help the tube go around the key. Updated June 2019 Anything marked v2 is the updated version. You'll still need the original key part. The cog is slightly larger, giving it a larger hole. As a result it is a loose fit on the key, which makes it easier to remove when you want to take an empty tube out. In use, the ratchet holds it in place, but it you want to make it permanent, a bit of super glue (CA) will lock it to the key. V2 of the frame has a beefier ratchet spring (it's still a thin bit of PLA, so it will al... This hosted file keeps creator credit and license details.

Lockable Present Ornament

Instead of putting your presents beneath the tree, why not put them on the tree? This is an ornament that also functions as a reusable present box. It's lockable with a nice ornate key. In addition to the key, the ribbons also hold the lid on and add an extra puzzle nature to the box. It can be a fun challenge for young kids to try to figure out how to open it. I'm using this with my kids and they are very intrigued about what might be in the box. They're already asking for the key! I'm planning to put the keys in their stockings. The Amazing Gyroscopic Cube Gears!

Update - I have re-printed and assembled this and in the process made several changes to make this much easier to print and assemble. With the changes that I made, I only had a couple spots where I had very minor edge cleanup because of the first layer being squeezed for adhesion. I have removed the need for sanding and other finish work that was previously needed. (I do however still recommend lubrication). I also wrote a full set of assembly instructions with pictures detailing my process for assembly. I hope that this helps those who build this and I thank those who made it through the assembly with my previous version. End of Update-- Come one come all and witness the thrills of the Ama... Artichoke Lamp Shade 3D model preview

Artichoke Lamp Shade

Inspired by the geometry of an artichoke and Louis Poulsen's great lighting studies and diagrams. This beautiful lamp shade is perfect for the home or business. You can use any standard hanging light cord and a low temp bulb (such as a cfl bulb.) We purchased a standard lamp base with a 12 ft cord from amazon and it screws in the top hole with no issues. 40% infill, high cooling, slow speed. May be tricky on some printers so you may need support for some of the lower fins. Notes: The model was created in 3ds Max 2011 but due to the inch/mm unit issues the model is scaled up by 2540%. Glasses

I always break my glasses by falling on the ground or sitting on them... I was tired of buying a new pair of glasses every time, so I decided to 3d print them. Easy task, but first I had to draw them. So I reused the lenses, but redesigned the shape and joints. Front face has to be printed as flat, I bent it using a little heat from hair dryer after print. It brings better results, than trying to print it bent with the supports. Temples are attached using two small pieces of 1.75mm filament, so I could avoid the problem with tiny screws. "It makes no difference what men think of war... War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. WALLY - Wall Plate Customizer

CUSTOMIZER CHALLENGE CONTEST WINNER - Useful Category Update v1.3: Added 3 plate sizes "Standard", "Junior-Jumbo", and "Jumbo". If you've got a larger hole in your wall these may help. So here it is, my first model designed in OpenSCAD. I found something that would really benefit from being a parametrically designed model: Wall Plates. I've created a OpenSCAD model that allows you to pick from a list of 18 types of connector/outlet style which then generates a 3D model correctly oriented and modeled to be immediately 3D printed. 3D printed mechanical Clock with Anchor Escapement

This mechanical clock demonstrates that 3d-printing is not just for decoration. It's possible to create intelligent, living things. Preassembled Secret Heart Box

UPDATE: I have new a much better version of this design here: the original source I really enjoyed Eric Young's design of his Secret Heart Box, but I didn't relish hunting down all the required parts to put it together. One thing I learned from designing the Blossoming Lamp is that it's entirely possible to 3D print complex, preassembled mechanisms without breaking the 45-degree rule. Bonsai Planter (New HD Model with over 1,100,000 Triangles)

We attempted to design a beautiful and useful planter for your next bonsai (which we happen to love). It took several months to find the right plant to fit the planter box. Automatic Transmission Model

Have you ever wondered how an automatic transmission works? I did, so I looked it up and then designed this desktop model. It has six forward speeds and one reverse. Real automatic transmissions have a hydraulic or electrical system that engages different clutches and brakes to shift gears depending on the driving situation. With this model you control those simplified brakes and clutches yourself. The clutch is actuated by sliding the drive shaft through to different positions (which each have two gear markings), while three separate brakes each also have two gear markings. You select a gear by engaging the brake and clutch position associated with your desired gear. See demonstration vide... This hosted file keeps creator credit and license details.

Shishi Odoshi "Deer Scarer" Japanese Water Fountain - Fully Working

I was recently in the Portland Japanese Garden where I saw a pleasant Shishi Odoshi fountain. It fills with water until it tips over and dumps the water out, making a noise that's meant to scare away deer that might otherwise eat your meticulously manicured garden. I was inspired to try to create a miniaturized, indoor-scale version, complete with pump and reservoir so it really works - right on your desk! The basic theory of operation is simple: the main tube is weighted below the hinge and hollow above the hinge. Though the top is longer than the bottom, it still weighs less than the bottom when it's empty, so the tube sits upright. As the top of the tube fills with water, it eventually w... Drawing Robot - Arduino Uno + CNC Shield + GRBL

Warning: I'm getting more messages from builders of this robot saying that either the required software is not available or it doesn't work under Windows 11. I may eventually remove this "Thing" since I don't want people to invest time building a robot with no software support. Be warned, this robot is a lot of work and it may not be possible to operate it as newer versions of Inkscape, GRBL, UGS, and Arduino may present incompatibilities. If you think you have the software abilities to resolve conflicts, enjoy this project otherwise I suggest building a newer design where someone has updated the software. This design still presents useful documentation for the mechanical build of a drawing... This hosted file keeps creator credit and license details.

CUSTOMIZER CHALLENGE CONTEST WINNER - Artistic Category This is a 100% printed customizable music box! Only 3D printed parts are used in the design and it can be assembled and disassembled via printed snapping mechanisms. The project originated when a friend of mine said that he'd only be interested in 3D printing once he can print a music box ;) Videos http://youtu.be/LUlovenI9xQ http://youtu.be/K_c3p24RRtQ (made by banthafodder7400) http://youtu.be/exNeQDz7f3g I'll try to keep the .scad file on this page updated but to help me to manage the design and to make it easier for others to contribute: https://github.com/wizard23/ParametrizedMusicBox Here is a Spreadsheet to help you to get the p... Customizable Lithopane

Click "Open in Customizer" to turn the image of your choice into a Lithopane! We used the Mona Lisa, but you could use any photo you want. The Lithopane tool generates a 3D model that looks like a rough terrain map. Download the file, print it on your MakerBot Desktop 3D Printer, and you've got a picture perfect pane to hang on your window. Three cheers for the lithopane pioneers on original source, such as cymon and pp3dpNL! Saber-Toothed Cat Skull

Just one look at the impressive skull of this massive feline and you’ll be glad it’s been extinct for 11,000 years. Walking the Earth alongside our human ancestors for millennia, saber-toothed cats’ impressive fangs were precision killing tools that helped earn them the scientific name Smilodon fatalis. With the intent of making the 3D printing ecosystem more accessible to educators, MakerBot Academy has selected Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics that align with our 3D printed content. Our goal is to lower the barrier to 3D printing in the classroom by directing teachers to standards-aligned resources. We hope to make the process of incorporating 3D printing te... Flexing battery holders with integrated spring

For my electronic projects I often need battery holders of various size and for different number of cells: single, multiple cells in parallel or in series, or serial lithium-ion type cells with connectors for balanced charging between the cells. So the project here was to generate fully parametrized, printable battery holders for cylindrical cells of arbitrary size and number. The additional challenge for me was to have the battery sit firmly in the holder without the use of the metallic spring that is usually found at the minus pole. In this design the metallic spring is replaced by a flexible printed curled structure, which presses the contacts firmly to the battery. This plastic spring f...
