The Amazing Gyroscopic Cube Gears!

Update - I have re-printed and assembled this and in the process made several changes to make this much easier to print and assemble. With the changes that I made, I only had a couple spots where I had very minor edge cleanup because of the first layer being squeezed for adhesion. I have removed the need for sanding and other finish work that was previously needed. (I do however still recommend lubrication). I also wrote a full set of assembly instructions with pictures detailing my process for assembly. I hope that this helps those who build this and I thank those who made it through the assembly with my previous version. End of Update-- Come one come all and witness the thrills of the Ama... Screwless Heart Gears

UPDATE: There is a new version of this design which is more reliable to print and easier to assemble. I highly recommend you use it instead: the original source At last, here is the much-requested 100% printable heart gears. No more ugly bolt holes! This was designed along the same lines as the screwless cube gears: the original source , and in fact uses the exact same center block (though the pins are slightly shorter). UPDATE: If you lack a 3D printer, you can now buy these from CarryTheWhat at http://www.etsy.com/shop/CarryTheWhat . The size has been increased a bit from the previous version to accommodate the printed pins, so it now measures 100mm... This hosted file keeps creator credit and license details.

Sliding Door bolt Print fully assembled

Make sure to check out the original source for add-ons for this thing. This includes alternative fixings and spacers for the main bolt and standard receiver. Update 6 July 2020. I've added a sliding bolt release tool. Print 100% infill. Place part with hole on a solid surface, put bolt in bolt shaped recess in this part then put other part with protrusion over back of bolt and tap with a small hammer to release. I hope this makes sense, just let me know if this works for you. It should get the bolt moving and is safer than trying to find random items and causing injury, I've added a fully assembled door bolt to print. either complete or just the bolt itself. Working Micro Gear Heart Keychain

Based on Emmett's ever popular gear heart: the original source This version is about half the width of the original (50 mm), which means its 1/8 the volume and a much faster print (yay math!). i find it takes me ~2 hours to print one (and ~8 for the original) Rather than just being a straight scaling, this version has been tweaked so taht it will still rotate. The main differences are the number of gear teeth (much fewer, and larger), gear ratio (it now takes 2 rotations to realign, unfortunately) and pins (made much beefier, and they are all one length). Additionally, there is a hole through the tip so that it can serve as a keychain! Print them out by the dozen and give... This hosted file keeps creator credit and license details.

Saber-Toothed Cat Skull

Just one look at the impressive skull of this massive feline and you’ll be glad it’s been extinct for 11,000 years. Walking the Earth alongside our human ancestors for millennia, saber-toothed cats’ impressive fangs were precision killing tools that helped earn them the scientific name Smilodon fatalis. With the intent of making the 3D printing ecosystem more accessible to educators, MakerBot Academy has selected Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics that align with our 3D printed content. Our goal is to lower the barrier to 3D printing in the classroom by directing teachers to standards-aligned resources. We hope to make the process of incorporating 3D printing te... Screwless Cube Gears 3D model preview

Screwless Cube Gears

UPDATE: This design has been superseded by my newer version, the original source , which has better pins (and more gear ratio options). I highly recommend you print that instead, as it prints more reliably, assembles much easier and holds together better. Thank you, all of you who've made cube gears and posted pictures. Since tbuser made these lovely pin connectors, the original source , I figured it was high time to make a fully printable cube gear set. Now you needn't bother buying any more screws: this one snaps together. Three Heart Gears

Just in time for Valentine's I've updated my Heart Gears. These use my new snap pin library, so they print more reliably and are much easier to assemble. I've also included three different gear ratios so you can choose how much frustration you wish to impart. Assembly instructions can be found in this video: http://youtu.be/O-qwmRwOpFQ Alternate instructions are here https://jig.space/viewer?jig=427 , courtesy of greenlig. Pretty cool system for making interactive 3D instructions - check it out. I didn't make this design Customizer-friendly, because there aren't really changeable parameters. Gear Bearing

The trouble with 3D printing a ball bearing is that spheres don't adhere to the 45 degree rule, so they tend to print poorly, or if metal balls are used instead, then the bearing requires assembly. This is a new kind of bearing that can only be manufactured by 3D printing and comes preassembled. It is a planetary gearset and functions like a cross between a needle bearing and a thrust bearing. No cage is required to keep the rollers in place, because their gearing keeps them perfectly spaced. The gears are all herringbone, which is why it cannot be disassembled and also why it can act as a thrust bearing. If you're wondering how well a 3D printed bearing could work under load, please check... This hosted file keeps creator credit and license details.

Ball-joint articulated octopus

This started out as an exercise in making the smallest ball joint tentacle that I could get to print reliably on my printer. It turned into a cute little octopus when I decided to make a fun gift out of the tentacles. It's surprisingly annoying and time-consuming to build, since each segment needs to be hand-trimmed of support and carefully snapped into the next, but the resulting toy has a lot of flexibility and posability. Printing the segments in all different colors to make a rainbow octopus is optional but highly recommended. Update 4/5 - I was experimenting with some freehand sculpting tools, and created a big-eyed alien head for the octopus that I've uploaded. Update 4/7 - added a fa... This is a part that mounts on the 30mm spaced holes on your Prusa i3 x-carriage ( https://github.com/josefprusa/Prusa3/blob/master/single_plate/src/x-carriage.scad ). It has a two-part groovemount hole sized to firmly grip an E3D hotend ( http://www.e3d-online.com/ ). It has holes to bolt on a RepRapPro miniextruder ( the original source ). SD Card Clip for Rasberry-Pi

Any owner of an early Raspberry-Pi will appreciate how flimsy the SD card holder is. The thin strap across the back of it is easily broken, and snapped off. This design makes a clip that slides onto the Raspberry-Pi and recreates a slot for the SD card. My design is rather cumbersome compared to the elegant solution devised by gould300 ( the original source ). However, because it supports the card beyond the edge of the PCB, it maybe more robust for schools and other places where the R-Pi boards could get rather rough treatment. Not having to be glued on also means any broken clip can easily be replaced. As you might guess I discovered gould300's design after I had print... Build plate lock

With this you can make a removable buildplate with no clamps on the top of the plate. It is easier to take off a part there wont easily leave the build surface when the buildplate is flexible. For dual extruder printers you can make a wider buildplate because of the offset between the extruders. Zen ToolWorks Filament Wheel Extension, Part A

This extension is designed specifically for 1.75 mm ABS filament sold by Zen ToolWorks on Amazon. It is designed for MakerGear M2's filament wheel holder, so it is nice and thick for structural purpose. I also made a thinner extension for keeping filament from falling off the cardboard wheel.
